BLOODY WIFE BATTERING:NIGERIAN MAN BEATS WIFE TO DEATH FOR ALLEGED INFIDELITY

34 YEARS-OLD MAN, whose name was given as Mr.Nkem Iheanacho,has killed his wife as he went physical with her for alleged extra-marital affairs with men in town.Nkem Iheanacho,our correspondent learnt was the younger brother of Nigeria’s former minister of Interior      Affairs, Navy Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho(Rtd)

The incident occurred in the month of May, 2013, at about 12Midnight in their residence; No.3 Calvary Street,Mebano Area,Lagos State. According to a close-door-neighbour who pleaded anonymity, it has been quite a long time,Mr Iheanacho started accusing his wife of having extra-marital affairs with men in the town. The couple have always had quarrel, especially whenever the wife returns late, from where she sells clothing materials. It has been a long-standing case between them.

‘’On that fateful day, it was 12midnight when fighting ensued between Nkem and his wife, Regina in their apartment. The man gave her a beating and there she collapsed. We tried rushing her to the nearest hospital. But on reaching the clinic, doctors on duty, confirmed Mrs. Regina Iheanacho dead. And from there, she was taken to the mortuary that early morning.’’

Another neighbour, who would not want his names revealed, said:’ we know Mrs. Regina as a hardworking woman, patient and mild-tempered. She has been in good terms with everyone in our neighborhood here. But, her husband is a man you can hardly convince and understand. Never friendly!

Aminiya ,learnt that Mr.Nkem Iheanacho tried to calm the horrible situation, but the people around quickly reported the matter to the Nigerian Police,Yaba Divisional Headquarters, where he was detained before being arraigned at the Customary Court,Ebute Meta.On the day of hearing for the case , the judge,Mr.O.O. Olatunji, directed that the accused be remanded in Prison custody, pending when the police must have finish investigation into the matter. The case was adjourned till the end of June.

On resumption, at the court, the presiding judge, Mr.O.O.Olatunji, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000(Two hundred thousand naira) with two sureties, each in the like sum.

Nigerian Lawmaker Turns Law Breaker,Robs With Arms And Ammunition

A Nigerian lawmaker, precisely in the Edo State House of Assembly, who took to armed robbery and thuggery has been arrested by the Nigerian Police, and arraigned in court early this year.

The state legislator, whose name was given as Rasak Momoh, hails from Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. Early June,2013,Rasak Momoh was standing trial at High Court 1,sitting in Auchi,for illegal possession of fire arms, and alleged robbery.

He was arrested at Baladi Hotel, Aviele in Etsako West Local Government Area on April 20, the day the state held its council polls.Momoh had earlier been arraigned before Magistrate Caroline Nwoha,in Auchi.Mrs. Nwoha had ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, and that the accused be remanded in Auchi Medium Prison, pending hearing on June 3.

However,the court could not hear the case on the adjourned date as Magistrate Nwoha declined to entertin the suit for lack of jurisdiction.Therefore,the case was subsequently transferred to  the high court.Hearing the case on Friday June 21,Justice Ada  Ehigiamosoe,granted bail to the suspect, in  the sum of 1million Naira, with two sureties who must have landed properties and resident in Auchi,Etsako West Local Government Area.

The prosecutor, commissioner of police, urged the court to refuse bail to the accused, alleging that he is influential and for that reason would jump bail.

But,Justice Ehigiamusoe said that the accused had provided sufficient facts to be granted bail. He said; ‘the fact that the accused is popular does not mean he will jump bail when granted.’’

With the granting of bail, the prosecutor is expected to provide  a trial date.

TWO MEN BAG LIFE JAIL FOR STEALING 1,500 NAIRA

AN Ekiti State High Court has sentence two persons to life imprisonment for attempted robbery, conspiracy and willful damage.The convicted men,Mr. Adebayo Rufus,a 25-uyear-old commercial motorcyclist,a native of Otun,in Moba Local Government Area,and one Bamidele Rasheed,a 27-year-old beans dealer in Agbowo Area,Ibadan,Oyo State,Nigeria,were found guilty of the committed offense on September 29,2008 at Otun,Ekiti in Ekiti State,Nigeria.

They were charged with attempted robbery, conspiracy and willful damage.The convicts were found guilty of count three and sentenced to six months imprisonment. While on counts one and two,they were also found guilty of robbing one Mrs. Ajayi Kofoworola of 1,500 Nigerian naira,equivalent to 9 US dollars, and thereby sentenced to life imprisonment.

Justice J.O. Adeyeye,in his judgement,said ,based on the evidence before the court, and testimony of the witnesses, he found the accused persons guilty and, therefore, sentenced them to life imprisonment.

15,000 PEOPLE GO BLIND YEARLY IN NIGER STATE,NIGERIA.

FIFTEEN thousand people become blind annually, in Niger state, commissioner of health and  hospital service, Dr, Ibrahim Sule, has said.

The commissioner said a recent blindness and low vision survey conducted in the state showed that another 15,000 people needed cataract surgery.Sule spoke yesterday in Minna,at the MTN Foundation Eyesight Restoration Intervention Scheme in the six health zones in the state. The commissioner said the state government is doing everything to arrest the situation, adding that it needs the support of private organizations and individuals to make this a success.

Declaring the program open Governor Babangida Aliyu said at least 30,000 patients suffering various eye ailments received free treatment in the state between 2007 and last year. Giving a breakdown of the situation through the Secretary to the State
